Obituary for Opal Lavon Jezek (Godwin)

Opal  Lavon  Jezek (Godwin)
Athens– Funeral Services for Opal Lavon Jezek, 75, of Athens are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Faith Fellowship Church in Athens with Rev. David Franklin and Pastor Tony Romans officiating.

Mrs. Jezek has gone to be with the Lord and her family on October 19, 2014 in Athens, Texas after fighting a courageous battle with cancer since 2002.

Opal Lavon Jezek was born July 23, 1939 in Athens, Texas the daughter of Travis J. Godwin and Norma Lee Gaston Godwin. Opal met the love of her life, Jim Jezek, while working at Curtis Mathis. She also worked at Hollywood Vassarette and K-Mart. Opal loved to bowl and play penny machines at the casinos. She loved flowers and has a huge assortment of flowers on her patio. She also liked to feed the birds. Looking out her kitchen window she would see Blue Jays, Redbirds, Cardinals, Humming birds and yes, even crows including one friendly squirrel. Opal was always a wonderful example of a loving Christian woman that loved the Lord and she truly loved all of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Johnny Godwin and a son in law Darrell Jones.

Opal is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Jim Jezek of Athens; daughter Norma Diane Beatey and husband Joe of Waxahachie; son Travis Jim Jezek and wife Cathy of Athens; daughter Opal Darlene Bourque and husband Kevin of Elkhart; five grandchildren, Holly and Dusty Ledbetter, Katy Jones, Seth and Haley Jezek; two great grandchildren, Alyssa and Leighton Ledbetter; sisters, Mae Gualdarama and husband Tommy, Helen Smith and husband Ronnie and many other relatives.

Visitation will be held at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home from 5-7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 21, 2014.

Pallbearers will be Dusty Ledbetter, Seth Jezek, Joe Jezek, Frank Jezek, Olan Norman and Jere Skiles.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Keetch, Dr. Abadie, Dr. Elkins, Dr. Takata, Dr. Pugh, Lakeplex Recycled Teenagers Bowling League, Genesis Home Care and Faith Fellowship Women’s Organization.

In lieu of flowers the Jezek family would like for donations to be made in Opal’s honor to:
