Obituary for Royce A. Jones
Athens – Funeral services for Royce Jones, 92, of Athens, will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 5:00 P.M. at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Br. James Townsend officiating. Visitation will be prior to service from 4-5 PM.
Mr. Jones went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 6, 2016 in Forney, Texas.
Royce Albert Jones, son of Albert Montgomery Jones and Annie Tom Williams Jones, was born on June 29, 1924 in Boyce, TX. He was married to love of his life for 71 years, Bonnie Eileen McGhee Jones. Royce was a Broadcast Television Engineer for Channel 4 for 40 years, a Hamm Radio Operator for the Athens Amateur Radio Club W5UOB, and served in the United States Army Air Corps later known as the Air Force flying B-25 bombers.
He was a member of the Shady Oaks Baptist Church, the Society of Broadcast Engineers, and the Masonic Lodge. He was a private pilot who loved to fly. Royce loved to teach people to water ski and loved to build and tinker with electronics. He was a loving family man who will be missed by all he knew and loved.
Royce is preceded in death by his parents; and sister Doyce Briscoe.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie McGhee Jones of Athens; children, Charles Albert Jones and wife Mary of Coppell, and Nancy Ann Townsend and husband Rick of Forney; brother Bobby Ray Jones and wife Dorothy; grandchildren, Amber Elliot and husband Jason, Keith Jones and wife Chelsea, James Townsend and wife Lori, and Bonnie Webb and husband David; great grandchildren, Sadie Grace, Lincoln Elliot, Logan Jones, Tristan Jones, Jordy Townsend, and Ruby Webb; and niece Bobette Courtaid and Ron Gaiser.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Family.
