Obituary for Renate Tonnison Funderburg (Tonnison)

Athens –Memorial services for Renate Funderburg, 76, of Murchison are scheduled for 6:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.

Mrs. Funderburg passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017 in Tyler.

Renate Tonnisen Funderburg was born September 24, 1940 in Dusseldorf, Germany the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Tonnisen. She cooked and volunteered at the Texarkana Arkansas Baseball Association for many years and truly enjoyed giving her time to the parents and kids at the ballpark. She loved taking care of her many plants and her spare time was spent reading and working word find puzzles. “Moo Moo” was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all she knew and loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Erika Tonnisen and her granddaughter Jennifer Parker.

She is survived by her husband Dennis Funderburg of Murchison; four children, Manuela Schroter of Essen, Germany, Denisa Love of Dubai, Joe Funderburg and wife Crystal of Arden, Arkansas, Birgit Grubbs and husband Ernie of Athens; eleven grandchildren, Jessica Bartlett and husband Ryan, Justin Sellers, Megan Sellers, Malorie Barker and husband Tacameo, Mayce Goodman and husband Garrett, Brandon Love, Shane Love, Shelby Love, William Donelson, Chris Donelson, Stephanie Parker and four great grandchildren.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.
