Athens – A Funeral Mass for Eugene Hablinski, 89, of Athens will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Malakoff with Father White officiating. Interment will follow at Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery.

Mr. Hablinski passed April 22, 2018 in Athens, Texas.

Eugene Edmond Hablinski was born July 8, 1928 in Bremond, Texas to John J. Hablinski and Annie Dziedzic Hablinski. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and then married his wife Clara in 1951. Upon returning he began his career as a millwright in 1947 with Continental Can Company in Houston and then transferred to Kilgore in 1970 to retire after 36 years. He was a member of the Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church of Malakoff, a Member of the Knights of Columbus for over 57 years and a Past President of the Longview Chapter of the SPJST (Slovanic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas) Lodge # 178. He was known as a Jack of All Trades who never left anything unfixed and was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. Papaw was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Annie Hablinski; his brother William Hablinski, two sisters, Christine Thomas, Maxine Foshee and a grandson Jarod Hablinski.

Mr. Hablinski leaves behind his loving wife of 67 years Clara Mikolajchak Hablinski of Athens; three sons: Billy R. Hablinski of Athens, Anthony J. Hablinski of Pleasanton, Ronald W. Hablinski of Longview; two brothers, Daniel Hablinski, Leonard Hablinski; nine grandchildren, Stefanie Webster, Jason Hablinski, Jonathon Hablinski, Tricia Weems, Alicia Richman, Clayton Hablinski, and Tiffany Ross, Matt Herrington, Nathan Herrington and sixteen great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens with Rosary following at 7:00 p.m.

Serving as Pallbearers: Jason Hablinski, Jade Webster, Clayton Hablinski, Jonathon Hablinski, Nathan Herrington, and Justin Ross.

In lieu of flowers the family would request donations be made to:
Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church to have Mass said in his name.
