Obituary for Frank Wesley Kindel

Frank W. Kindel returned to his heavenly home on April 27, 2018, after a valiant battle with cancer. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. He passed away at home in Athens Texas, in the loving arms of his wife, and his two daughters.

There is an old saying that God has two dwelling places -- one in heaven and the other in the thankful heart. Frank had that thankful heart. God's love lived in him.
He was incredibly generous with his time and talents. He just couldn't say no to someone in need. First and last, Frank was a man for others. Blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, Frank never took himself too seriously. He had the wisdom to know what to do, the skill to know how to do it, and the virtue -- the love-- to do it.

Even before he joined the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Athens at St. Edward Catholic Church, he served with Vincentians in Richardson, Texas at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Many a Saturday he wrestled furniture and bedding into all-but-empty apartments, so that those most in need -- God's children-- had a bed to sleep in and a chair to sit in. Frank was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus Council 10524, Athens Texas and Council 8954, Richardson Texas.

After 33 years, Frank retired from Raytheon Corporation, Garland Texas. He served his country proudly and honorably both in the Army and as a civilian.

Frank is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda; daughter Loni and Son-In-Law, Philip Walker; daughter Bridget and Son-In-Law, Michael J. McDonald; five grandsons Zain and Aiden Walker, Michael, Oliver and Alexander McDonald, sisters Kathy Garza, Glenna Omlor and Lorna Kindel. His parents Nadine and George Kindel preceded him in death.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00am on Thursday, May 3rd at St. Edward Catholic Church, 800 E. Tyler, Athens, Texas. He will be interred at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
