Dorothy K Herrington, 82 of Athens, Texas are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joe Warren officiating. Burial will follow at Athens Cemetery and will be under the Direction of the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.
Ms. Herrington passed away in the care of her best friend and daughter Cheryl, on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 in Houston, Texas.
Dorothy Kathleen Glenn Herrington was born July 7, 1934 in San Antonio, Texas the daughter of Dan Carlyle Glenn and Minnie Aileen Elam Glenn Young. She married the love of her life, Arthur R Herrington on December 16, 1952 in Ft. Worth, Texas. She was an amazing mother who lived and breathed for her family. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Athens and of the Presbyterian Bible Study Group. Dorothy had an amazing voice and was an aficionado of music and current events and quite talented with electronics. She loved silk and live flowers, had a green thumb and a knack for decorating. Mom was an impeccable artist who had a collection of Old World Santa’s and Christmas decorations covering her entire house and four beautiful trees. Her dog’s, Sunshine Katy Camille and Herringtons Sable Abigail were her pride and joy. She was an insurance agent with Bob H. Johnson Insurance agency for many years until her retirement in 1991.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Arthur Herrington Sr., her parents and one brother Dan Carlyle Glenn Jr.
She is survived by her loving daughter Cheryl K Herrington of Sugar Land, Texas, one son Arthur Ray Herrington Jr. and wife Linda of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, October 14, 2016 from 6-8 P.M. at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.
