Funeral services for Joy Calhoun, 63 of Athens, Texas will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 17, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Cross Roads, Texas with Bro. Frank Upchurch officiating. A private family graveside will be held later and will be under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.
Mrs. Calhoun went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 13, 2016 in the company of her loving husband.

Joy Gale Calhoun was born on May 2, 1953 in Athens, Texas the daughter of Robert Lewis Sparks and Lois Ella Hickman Sparks. Joy retired from the Cross Roads Independent School District after 20 plus years as librarian. She was a member of Cross Roads First Baptist Church where she taught the children’s Sunday School class. Joy enjoyed reading, sewing and canning vegetables. She loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting with her husband. Those who knew her best knew she loved watching her grandkids in all of their activities. Joy was a loving wife, Mom, Maw Maw and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Roy and Bob Sparks and one sister Sarah Sparks.

Joy is survived by her loving husband of 42 years Troy Calhoun of Athens; son, Ben Calhoun and wife Christal of Eustace; daughter, Amy Weatherholtz and husband Jacob of Fort Worth; sister Martha Morgan and husband WR of Chelsea, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Haley Calhoun, Savanah Calhoun, Emily Calhoun, Colby Calhoun, Halie Northcutt and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 16, 2016 from 3:00 – 5:00 P.M. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens, Texas.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made in her Memory to the Cross Roads Independent School District Library.
