Obituary for John Truett Bumgardner

The Memorial Service for John Truett Bumgardner, 80, of Malakoff will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church of Malakoff, Texas ( 220 W. Mitcham St.) with Bro. Jody Jones officiating assisted by Bro. Casey Perry.

Visitation will be held on Saturday at 10 A.M. prior to the Memorial Service.

Mr. Bumgardner passed away on Sunday October 16, 2016 in Tyler.

John Truett Bumgardner, son of Ned Bumgardner and Genevieve Dorsey, was born on January 20, 1936 in Nacogdoches, TX. He was married to the love of his life Betty Lynn Huggins Bumgardner for 62 years. He was a retired Rural Mail Carrier for the U.S. Post Office, and served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Mr. Bumgardner was an active member of First Baptist Church of Malakoff, TX for 51 years he served as a Deacon and Second grade Sunday School Teacher as well as other various roles for many years. He was a Master Mason for 50 years in the Masonic Lodge # 795 AM.FM. John worked with the Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, loved Gospel Music, never missed a Texas Rangers Baseball Game and was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He was an avid golfer and gardener, loved the game of 42 and enjoyed western movies.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Ned and Genevieve Bumgardner.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; two children; Wayne Bumgardner and wife Shelly, Terri Lynn Monroe and John Allan Young, two Brothers David Bumgardner and wife Jean of Birmingham, AL, Arthur Bumgardner and wife Rena of Helena Montana, and one sister LaNell Richardson and husband Jim of Malakoff, TX. Four grandchildren; Josh and Alisa Monroe, Rachel and Mike Bartlett, Amie Disotell, Mollie and Preston Eaton. Seven great grandchildren; Kaylee, Ryan, Josiah, Briah, Holden, Addison and Cuyler. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins plus a host of friends.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to:
1st Baptist Church of Malakoff Youth and Children’s Ministry, Meals on Wheels of Malakoff or The Hospice of East Texas Foundation.
