Athens – Funeral services for Carol Jean Barker, 83, of Lewisville are scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Sand Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Erick Graham officiating. Interment will follow at Cottonwood Cemetery.

Ms. Barker passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017 in Lewisville, Texas.

Carol Jean Chappell Barker was born January 6, 1934 in Roxana, Oklahoma the daughter of William Ray Chappell and Elma Junita Hackney. She married Robert E. Barker Jr. on June 30, 1956 and later move to East Texas to start their family. Carol was a member of Sand Springs Baptist in Athens and loved being a part of her Senior Adults Sunday School Class. She was a lover of arts and crafts who enjoyed painting water colors and ceramics. Grandmother loved to read and spend time with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 36 years Robert Barker Jr.; her parents; her son Stephen Barker; one sister and two brothers.

She is survived by her children, Robert Wayne Barker and wife Shirley of Athens, William Rex Barker and wife Dawn of Reisel, James Barker and wife Heather of Manistee, MI, Susan Lakos and husband William of Lansing, MI, John Barker of Roanoke, Phillip Barker of Bedford, Catherine Rea and husband James of Highland Village; one sister Janis Gilley of Houston; nineteen grandchildren, Robert K. Barker, Christina Graham, Jeffery Barker, Matthew Barker, Robert N. Barker, Alicia Schwitzer, Amanda Reznickcheck, Christin Barck, Samuel Allen, Rex Barker, Elizabeth Lakos, Benjamin Barker, Andrew Lakos, Timothy Allen, Jacob Barker, Cassie Brittain, Isaac Barker, Caitlyn Allen, Nathanael Barker and 25 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Robert K. Barker, Jeffery Barker, Matthew Barker, Robert N. Barker, Samuel Allen, Rex Barker, Benjamin Barker, Andrew Lakos, Timothy Allen, Jacob Barker, Isaac Barker, Nathanael Barker.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
