Funeral Services for James Burns, 90, of Murchison are scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.
James passed away on May 25, 2017 in Tyler.
James Earnest Burns was born December 18, 1926 in Dallas, Texas the son of Scott Vernon Burns and Edna Crouch Burns. He joined the United States Navy and served as a Seaman Second Class on the U.S.S. Detroit during World War 2. James was a Christian and a hard-working man. He spent the last 27 years of his working career in Murchison as an auto body mechanic. He was a loving father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather who will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margie Nell Mayhall Burns; son, James Michael Burns; two brothers Leonard Burns, Thomas Burns and his sister Mary Verlin Wesch.
He is survived by his two daughters, Marie Brown of Murchison, Hollie Stearns and husband Billy of Irving; one sister Judy Hatfield of Grand Prairie; three grandchildren, Shana Todd and husband Gerald, Brian Johnson, Stacy Sustaire and husband Brandon and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 1-3:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.
